About me
A quiet dialogue between past and present.
Johannes “Jonny” Kölbl, who grew up in Leibnitz, Styria, is a musician, educator, composer, Soundbastl and instrument maker. Early on he discovered a fascination for the Styrian accordion and percussion – an interest that took him from the Studio Percussion School in Graz and the Styrian Military Band to the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, where he studied jazz drums as well as instrumental and vocal pedagogy. With a Nordic Master in Folk Music, completed at renowned institutions in Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Norway, and a Master in Sound Design at FH Joanneum in Graz, he deepened his ear for sound.
In his projects he weaves traditional roots together with personal sonic experiments. As a music educator and freelance artist, and through his work as an instrument maker, his output reflects a quiet dialogue between past and present.

International stages and learning spaces shape my work – whether live in Vietnam, Israel, India, Iran, Bhutan, Morocco, Belgium, Italy, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Slovenia, Germany, Luxembourg, Croatia, Hungary, Australia and Poland, or in streaming formats from Serbia, Washington (USA), Tajikistan, Argentina and Japan. Masterclasses and workshops underline my ongoing dialogue with musical traditions from around the world.
